Numerous Niches

 

 

I don’t know how I ended up with so many of these little antique telephone niches.  (Well, really I do know)

I have three.

This one was fuchsia.  It has been scraped, scraped, scraped.

I have one painted white.

One painted black.

Other than that, they all look basically alike.

Soon I will have just one—yes, I am selling the rest.

I don’t know which one will remain. 

But maybe I will put a telephone in it.

Barnyard Bash-Do Llamas Count?

It’s a party over at Happier Than a Pig in Mud.

I really don’t have much around my house that would qualify for a Barnyard Bash,

but there is never a shortage of painted stuff around here.

They (whoever “they” are) say petting llamas lowers your blood pressure.

I don’t know, but he was fun to paint and requires little maintenance

He’s pretty big (28 x 34).

In my last home, he was hanging over a French door to the patio.

It looked like he was outside looking in.

Good thing he’s not real. I’m a sucker for an animal wanting inside.

My Kids Went to Malibu, But I Didn’t Get No Stinkin’ T-Shirt!

Not long ago, my daughter and her sweet hubby took a little vacation to California.

They had a great time, but that’s not important.

What is important is that I trained her well. Giving her values and all that.

THEY STOPPED AT A GARAGE SALE IN MALIBU.

Where they picked up this little gem of a lantern that had actually been hanging on the outside of the house.

Sweet!

They wanted to thank hubby and me for keeping their kids, our babygrands, while they were vacationing.

Lanterns are all the rage, aren’t they? Love those at Restoration Hardware!

But I love this one and the story behind it.

The house where it used to hang is next door to Tom Selleck.

I don’t need no stinkin’ t-shirt.

A little snag….

Well, we ran into a little snag on this next project.

A storm blew through.

And this was 2 weeks ago before all the rain the last few days.

Hubby managed to get it all cleaned up…just trees after all. 

They’ll fill in.

Shabby White Science Desk/Making New Hardware Look Old

For this week's White Wednesday (please go visit Kathleen's blog Faded Charm and say thank you to her for hosting this weekly event), I have a two-fold mission. First, to show this piece hubby and I picked up MANY years ago in Canton, Texas. We thought at the time it was some kind of primitive kitchen piece. We have since discovered it is probably a very old science desk out of a classroom. It has the places for the pipes to come up the back for the bunson burners or whatever is used in science. (Can you tell it has been too long since I've been in a science classroom?) I love the patina of the chippy paint...mostly creamy white but a little blue is sneaking through.

The old metal top is neat too.

Our daughter currently has possession of this piece and she loves the way it works as a sofa table in her home. And it was a desk for partners. How cute is that!

It has the most wonderful hardware. You can't recreate this look!

Or can you? Hence, the second part of my mission. The main problem with the piece is that it was missing one of these:

So I bought a new one and painted it to look like the old one. Can you tell which is old and which is new?

Honestly, I am not really sure. It has been 4 years ago and I think the bottom one is the one I painted. It has held up pretty well. It gets used A LOT by my babygrands, 3-year old Reid, and 1-year old Caroline! After all, toys are inside!
